Map

This is the place to see which bookshops I’ve visited and where I’ll be heading in the future. London is a big city with hundreds of different bookshops ranging from the largest in Europe to the market stalls under Waterloo Bridge and everything in between. I’m going visit as many as I can but it’s a process that will take a huge amount of time to complete.

Rather than restrict this map to the bookshops I have already visited, I will mark the locations of each bookshop as I learn its location and then use colour coding to indicate those I have visited, or will be visiting soon.

Please comment below if you know of a bookshop that is not on the map and I will add it. If you own or work at a bookshop and would like me to come visit you, please email me at onebookontheshelf (at) gmail.com or get in touch on twitter @1bookontheshelf.

Bookshop I have visited: Click on the marker for a quick summary and a link to the blog post.

Bookshop I will be visiting soon: I’ve been in contact with the shop and be visiting soon, so keep an eye out for it’s blog post!

Independent bookshop: I haven’t had a chance to visit here yet, but it’s on my ‘to-visit’ list!

Chain, charity shop or other: I will visit some of these shops but not all of them. Decisions will be made on a case by case basis; branches of Waterstone’s, discount/remainder bookshops, specialist religious shops and charity bookshops (e.g. Oxfam) all come under this category, as do bookshops attached to museums and galleries. If you know somewhere that is included in this category but is unmissable then let me know.

  2. I think it’s absolutely WONDERFUL that you’re doing this! I’ve always thought of London bookstores of being the perfect image of classic bookshops!

  3. This is such a great project!! A mate and I have been doing something similar with bookshops in our area, though the lack of independent/second-hand bookshops in Southampton means we had to expand to South Hampshire…

I haven’t had a chance to read all of your blogs yet (I’ll catch up soon!) but I assume you know about this amazing site: http://www.inprint.co.uk/thebookguide/shops/index.php ? I use it whenever I’m going on holiday to make sure I don’t miss out on a second-hand gem!
